Shota Arveladze Pictures

One of the most prolific striker Georgia has ever produced, Shota Arveladze became an instant hit when he joined Ajax from Trabzonspor in 1997, scoring 25 goals in 31 games.

He stayed on for three seasons at Ajax, and had one other significant season before joining Glasgow Rangers once Zlatan Ibrahimovic came to Ajax from Malmö FF.

At the Rangers, he was a regular starter, along with the likes of ex-Ajax teammate, Ronald de Boer. However, with some Celtic dominance, courtesy of Swedish striker, Henrik Larsson, he was unable to bring many Scottish League trophies.

In 2005, he left for AZ Alkmaar, hoping that this new, young club could repeat it's amazing previous season, under new manager, Louis van Gaal, who was his manager at Ajax for the earlier part of his career.

Arvaladze made his mark straight away, scoring two goals on his debut against promoted Sparta Rotterdam.

A strong runner and high goal scoring midfield player, Ballack was instrumental in Germany's World Cup 2002 campaign.
He was taken into the youth program in Chemnitzer at age 14, but was quickly taken in by Kaisersluiten, where he lost the favour of manager Rehhgael. He switched to Bayern Leverkusen for €4.8m.
His final season for that club was heartbreaking, where he came second in the Bundesliga, lost the German Cup and the Champions League final. He was voted into the UEFA.com's European team of the year and was awarded German Player of the Year.
Bayern Munich saw his current form and bought him for €12.9m.
He maintained his standard for Munich and for the German national team, and had scored four goals for Germany during the qualifications for Euro 2004.

AFF Suzuki Cup

Vietnam won the 2008 ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup after a one-all draw with Thailand at Hanoi’s My Dinh Stadium last night and beating Thailand 3-2 on aggregate.

It was Vietnam’s first win over Thailand in an official competition since 1998 when Vietnam defeated Thailand 3-0 in the semifinals of same tournament, then called the Tiger Cup, though Vietnam lost 1-0 to Singapore in the finals.

It has been 49 years since Vietnam won a regional championship since the football team of South Vietnam won the Southeast Asian Peninsular (SEAP) championship in 1959.

Last night the visiting team scored the opener in the first half and hung on to the lead all through the second half before Vietnam’s top striker Le Cong Vinh evened the score, securing victory for the home team and sending fans into a frenzy.

Vietnam’s Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem were on the stand to witness the historic win.

At the troply-ceremony, Prime Minister Dung handed the trophy to an elated Vietnamese football team.

Fifa 11 Latest Game

Five months after the release of 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa, EA Sports released the next installment in their award winning FIFA franchise, FIFA 11. With the huge leap forward provided by FIFA 10 last year, the big question for this game was “Is FIFA 11 enough of an improvement to warrant shelling out the money for a new game.” After playing the game, I would say the answer to that question depends on the gamer.
EA is on a roll! Their recent game release of FIFA 11 has set a record. It is the fastest selling sports game to date. This achievement beat out last years FIFA 10 in record speed!
